Lee Croft hit Norwich's winner in their 1-0 home win over Sheffield United

Norwich City's fast-falling stock suddenly zoomed upwards, courtesy of Lee Croft’s first goal for 10 months in the final seconds.

But they face tough times.

They are soon to report a record loss of more than £1million and their £10m wages budget has been cut to £8.5m.

All Championship teams face similar problems and while visiting manager Kevin Blackwell claimed his side should have won — ‘we had the chances and we didn’t take them’ — they do not appear to have the resources to return to the Barclays Premier League.

Norwich’s hero of a patched-up side was Dave Marshall, who made several key saves, notably near the end when he turned Danny Webber’s shot for a corner.

‘That was a match-winning save,’ said Norwich manager Glenn Roeder.
