Reunited: Beckham could play a part under his former Real Madrid manager for England
The Italian said of the player he coached at Real Madrid: "I had a contrasting relationship with David at Real but in the end he demonstrated what a great man and great player he is.
"Also, he is the kind of person I believe, when he sets himself something he will achieve it so you never know but obviously I will have to make choices.
"I believe David's behaviour is important.
"Obviously there is still over a month until the first game, plenty of time for important decisions to be made."
The 61-year-old is confident of maintaining a healthy relationship with the high-profile club managers in England.
"I've always had an excellent relationship with the likes of Arsene Wenger, Sir Alex Ferguson and the two Spanish managers in the Premier League, Rafael Benitez and Juande Ramos," he said.
"At the UEFA coaches' meetings I've always had a fantastic relationship with such individuals, it will be no problem in working alongside them."
And FA chief executive Brian Barwick added: "I think it should always be the ambition of the FA, when possible, to recruit an England manager from within our own country.
"On this occasion we felt it was important to get the right man whatever the nationality."
