Capello set to be confirmed as new England boss today and he'll earn even more than Sven

Fabio Capello today admitted he has already fallen in love with England and is ready to take on the challenge of being this country's new coach.

The Italian spent yesterday being shown around London and Wembley Stadium after holding constructive talks with Football Association chief executive Brian Barwick and director of football development Sir Trevor Brooking. The appointment is set to be confirmed by the FA as the new England coach today.

The deal will see Capello earn even more than Sven Goran Eriksson.

Capello is expected to sign a two-and-a-half year contract that will pay him in the region of £6million a year, with a two-year option to take England to the 2012 European Championship as well as the 2010 World Cup.

Capello then returned to Italy last night due to a prior domestic arrangement, leaving his son Pierfilippo, who acts as his agent and lawyer, in the capital to thrash out the final details.

Pierfilippo this morning said: "Everything went well. We had positive discussions and I anticipate another day, maybe two, of talks.

"Fabio thought that London was a beautiful city and he loved the new Wembley - his only complaint was the weather. It was too cold for him!"

Capello could fly back to England tomorrow to finalise the deal but he insists he will fulfil his obligation to appear on his weekly television show on RAI Uno - 'Sunday Sport' - this weekend.

It is now more likely that he will be unveiled as Steve McClaren's successor early next week.

The talks went so well yesterday that plans have already been made for the 61-year-old to go to Villa Park in his new capacity as England coach with Barwick to watch Manchester United take on Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup on 6 January.

The FA board were today expected to ratify the recommendation from Barwick once negotiations have been concluded.

"We're not quite over the line yet and there are legal considerations still to be agreed but we are optimistic," said an FA spokesman.

Capello's backroom staff could include former Chelsea favourite Gianfranco Zola, while at least one Englishman and possibly two, will be recruited as assistant coaches.
