Spurs skipper King is hoping to be fit for the clash between the two London giants after missing the last five games to protect his troublesome knee.

Tottenham have not appeared in a major final since losing 2-1 to Blackburn at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff in the same competition six years ago.

They got there, ironically, by beating Chelsea 5-1 in another glory night at the Lane and King, who starred in the big win over the Gunners last month, does not want history to repeat itself in the decider.

"We all have to be a little bit hard-nosed about it all and believe that, memorable night or not, it will mean nothing if we do not perform when we step out at Wembley for the Carling Cup final," the England international said.

"I was in the side that beat Chelsea 5-1 in 2002 and subsequently suffered the hurt of defeat to Blackburn Rovers in Cardiff a matter of weeks later.

"Le me assure you that any feelings of post-Chelsea euphoria quickly evaporated and losers' medals are not great collectors' items.

"The challenge is to avoid a repeat in what will be our first visit as a club to the new Wembley for only the second major cup final to be staged at the magnificently reconstructed stadium."
