Casey's still aiming for a place on Faldo's Ryder Cup team

Paul Casey still believes he can make a late run into Nick Faldo's Ryder Cup team, even though his Open performance has left him with a lot of ground to cover.
At 12 over par going into today's final round at Birkdale, he will be playing only for place money as he looks to improve his lowly standing in the two qualifying tables to play at Valhalla in September.
Making the cut: England's Paul Casey still hoping
However, he saw enough good signs in a wind-cheating three-over-par 73 he shot yesterday to suggest he could yet star in the big-money Bridgestone Invitational and US PGA events that may have the final say in who makes the European team. 'The Ryder Cup is still very much in my crosshairs, and I think I still have a pretty good chance of making it,' said Casey.
'If you look at that 73 and take out the fact that I carved my first drive of the day out of bounds and also lost a ball on the 15th, plus the fact there were two three-putts, I played an awful lot of good golf out there in that wind.'
Casey, however, has decided his best route into the Ryder Cup lies in America rather than returning to the European Tour after the US PGA Championship.
'I am going to try to get in through the world ranking points table,' said Casey, who is in 23rd place, 100 points adrift of Justin Rose, who occupies the fifth and final qualifying place.
'After a week off next week, I will play in every event in America until the qualifying process stops, because, apart from Ryder Cup points, I also need points over there to make the finals of the FedEx Cup.'
