Cech defends Didier's desire to quit Chelsea

Petr Cech has backed team-mate Dider Drogba, saying the Chelsea striker had every right to reveal his wish to quit Stamford Bridge. Drogba told France Football magazine he wanted to follow former coach Jose Mourinho out of the club but later said he regretted making his thoughts public.

But Cech insists the only important thing is for Drogba to produce the goods on the pitch.

"Didier opened his heart in his interview but the main importance for the players, the club and the fans should be the fact on the pitch he has always been brilliant and fighting 100 per cent," said Cech.

"Every player has the right to say what he thinks. For us the most important thing is he plays on the pitch for the team. You can see in any game he is 100 per cent for us and wants to score goals and win and that is the main thing."

Drogba, meanwhile, has again reiterated his commitment to Chelsea, who face German side Schalke in a Champions League Group B clash at Stamford Bridge tonight.

"If you are not happy to be somewhere it is difficult to give 100 per cent," added the Ivory Coast striker, who scored 33 times for Chelsea last season.

"Now I'm giving 100 per cent because I feel good. I love the fans - I think they show me the respect I deserve and this is very important. How could I not be emotional when he [Jose Mourinho] brought me to England, to the best league in the world."
