Can Henrythegenius knock Henrythenavigator off course as he tries to emulate one of the Ballydoyle greats in the St James's Palace Stakes?
Honeymooning Henry Cecil, with an outstanding 70 Royal Ascot winners to his name, saddles Twice Over in the Group One contest and some bookmakers believe his 7-1 shot could leapfrog French Guineas winner Falco (11-2) to become second favourite as punters latch on to an each-way alternative to the odds-on favourite.
Aidan O'Brien's Henrythenavigator is chasing a rare treble. When O'Brien's Rock Of Gibraltar carried Sir Alex Ferguson's silks to victory in 2002, he became the first colt since.
Right Tack in 1969 to add victory in the mile contest to success in both the English and Irish Guineas. Henrythenavigator seems to have the measure of most opponents but he has yet to meet Twice Over.
Victory for the Cecil threeyear- old would be the sweetest of wedding presents for a trainer whose marriage to third wife Jane last month was blessed in a Newmarket ceremony at the weekend.
After a narrow success over Raven's Pass in the Craven Stakes in April, Twice Over sidestepped a clash with Henrythenavigator in the Newmarket Guineas as Cecil's instinct persuaded him to prioritise a tilt at the Derby.
Cecil looked stunned as that plan fell apart with a third to Tartan Bearer in the Dante Stakes at York when the 10 furlongs seemed to stretch him.
But Lord Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khaled Abdullah, said: 'I am not trying to make excuses but he was a little off colour the following day.'
Cecil confirmed: 'He had a blood count problem but we are expecting him to run very well. I think he has enough speed for a stiff mile.'
Burning Sun's 2002 Hampton Court Stakes win was Cecil's last at this meeting. But after a morale-sapping trough and, despite continued treatment for stomach cancer, stable fortunes are resurgent.
After Light Shift's 2007 Oaks win, numbers are up at Warren Place stable with 21 winners from only 94 runners and Cecil has chances throughout the week, including Lockinge Stakes second Phoenix Tower trying a two furlong longer trip in tomorrow's Prince Of Wales's Stakes.
Cecil added: 'It was too slow a pace for Phoenix Tower in the Lockinge. He is a mile and a quarter horse who is running at his right distance. Unleashed will go to the Queen's Vase and Unnefer is improving.
'I haven't had many runners in recent years but I feel these horses are worth running. They are not going there for fun. I'm hoping one or two of them fly the colours.'
