Celtic chief: Name your price, Naka but the Japanese star looks to home

Celtic has told Shunsuke Nakamura to name his price in a quest to secure the Japanese international's services on a long-term deal.

Chief executive Peter Lawwell has told a Japanese newspaper that he hopes to begin talks with agent Roberto Takuda over another contract extension soon.

Hoops hope: Celtic are keen for Nakamura will stay at Parkhead

Sportsmail understands, however, that the SPL champions face an uphill battle to convince Nakamura to remain in Scotland beyond this season.

Informal talks took place by telephone last week, when it was intimated to Celtic that the midfield playmaker harbours ambitions to return home to Japan next season, despite interest from English and Spanish clubs.

Armed with a contract which allows them to take up an option until 2009, however, the SPL leaders will persevere in their efforts to keep last season's Player of the Year.

"Shunsuke is a legend," Lawwell told the Sports Hochi paper. "We hope Naka will play at Celtic as long as possible. A contract period? It's as long as he wants."

Yokohama Marinos, Nakamura's hometown club, are believed to have hatched plans to bring their prodigal son back to the Land of the Rising Sun sometime in the next 12 months.
