Celtic manager Strachan confirms his interest in injured Swiss striker Frei

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan last night confirmed he still has his sights trained on Switzerland striker Alexander Frei.

The Borussia Dortmund forward has been linked with a move to Parkhead for the last four years.

And last night Strachan revealed that Dortmund had previously priced Celtic out of the running for the 28-year-old, but confirmed that Frei remains a target.

Strachan, speaking in his role as a pundit on the BBC's Euro 2008 coverage, said: "He was on the radar 18 months ago but the price Dortmund were asking was too high.

"Since then he's had a hip injury and now he's been injured at Euro 2008.

"But he's still on our radar along with a few others. We will wait and see. He's a good player but we have a few of them at Celtic."

Swiss captain Frei saw his tournament end in tears after suffering a partially ruptured left knee ligament as the joint-hosts lost 1-0 to the Czech Republic in their opening Group A fixture. His recovery is expected to take six weeks.
