Champions League draw: United face return to Rome, Chelsea to play Valencia and Celtic draw holders Milan

Chelsea and Manchester United have been reunited with the sides they beat in last season's quarter-finals in the group stages of this year's UEFA Champions League.

Sir Alex Ferguson's Red Devils have been drawn in Group F alongside Italian side Roma, just months after violence marred their quarter-final clash in April.

A United fan was stabbed in Rome as violence erupted during their first leg meeting on April 4. There were also scuffles between English and Italian fans outside Old Trafford before United's 7-1 victory in the second leg.

United beat Roma 7-1 in the quarter-final second leg last season to complete a stunning 8-3 aggregate win.

Jose Mourinho's side, meanwhile, face Primera Liga team Valencia in Group B - the side they faced in the last eight last season, drawing 1-1 at Stamford Bridge before a last-minute Michael Essien goal in the return fixture earned them a place in the semi-final.

United's group is completed by Sporting Lisbon and Dynamo Kiev and Chelsea will face Rosenborg and FC Schalke.

Last season's finalists Liverpool's main rivals in Group A are Portuguese outfit Porto, while they will also face Ligue One side Marseille and Besiktas of Turkey.

Arsenal will play one of Sevilla or AEK Athens - who will contest the second leg of their qualifier on September 3 following the death of the Spanish side's Antonio Puerta - as well as Steaua Bucharest and Slavia Prague in Group H.

Old Firm pair Rangers and Celtic have been rewarded for their exploits in this week's third qualifying round with some high-profile clashes.

Rangers have been drawn with Barcelona, Lyon and Stuttgart in Group E.

Rivals Celtic, who triumphed in a penalty shootout against Spartak Moscow last night, will play holders AC Milan, Benfica and Shakhtar Donetsk in Group D.

Group C contains Real Madrid, Werder Bremen, Lazio and Olympiacos and the draw is completed by Group G which contains Inter Milan, PSV Eindhoven, CSKA Moscow and Fenerbahce.
