Champions League place still within Everton's reach, insists Neville

Everton skipper Phil Neville wants his side to lay to rest Chelsea's title hopes when the pair clash at Goodison Park on Thursday.

And Neville insists his teammates want to make the most of what has been a promising season so far.

Big hurdle: Dirk Kuyt and Liverpool currently hold fourth spot, but Neville says Everton can jump their rivals

"We're at the stage of the season where we seem to have hit a brick wall," Neville told evertonTV.

"But we have got to recover and find something from within to kick on and get that fourth place. That's still what we are aiming for and the position that we want."

Neville insists the Blues must focus on their own displays, rather than having one eye on events at teams around them.

"We can't worry about results at Anfield or Villa Park or Portsmouth," he continued.

"We have to make sure we win our own games and there's no better way to bounce back from the disappointment of the weekend by beating a quality team like Chelsea."

Avram Grant's side were held to a 1-1 draw by Wigan on Monday and are now five points behind leaders Manchester United with four games remaining. Defeat to the Toffees would effectively mean Sir Alex Ferguson's side would retain their title.

"There's no motivation needed for Thursday, fourth place is still up for grabs and we have to make sure that we get the just rewards for our season," Neville added.

"People are talking about what a fantastic season we have had, but it will count for nothing if we don't qualify for Europe.

"Even finishing in fifth place for me would be a good achievement but not as great as what we could have done. That's our motivation between now and the end of the season."
