Channon to make his Point again - Mick hopes to win Goodwood opene

Mick Channon will be hoping for a case of déjà vu as CHAMPIONSHIP POINT (Goodwood, nap, 2.15) bids to repeat his victory of 12 months ago in the opening event of Glorious Goodwood 2008.
The five-year-old may not have impressed on heavy ground in the John Smith's Cup but there is every chance that race was used as a prep by his trainer and I prefer to concentrate on the selection's superb record at the track.

Last year's impressive victory off a pound lower mark aside, Championship Point has also won a Listed event at today's venue as well as being touched off by the classy Imperial Stride, confirming he is at home on the undulations of the Sussex Downs.
Darryll Holland has partnered the gelding to his last four successes and there is every chance bookmakers may underestimate his chance in the light of a below-par run on the Knavesmire last time.
Infallible will be a tough nut to crack in the Betfair Cup and handler John Gosden is optimistic that the forecast thundery showers will arrive to boost her chance. 'They look like they might get hit by some thunderstorms overnight so that would be in her favour as she likes a bit of cut in the ground,' he said.
The drop to seven furlongs will also suit a filly blessed with plenty of pace, however the layers are unlikely to offer much in the way of value and KING OF DIXIE (Goodwood, 3.30) may prove a more attractive each-way option.
There was definitely some ease in the ground when he destroyed a talented field at York two starts ago and he was totally undone by a stop-start gallop at Newmarket last time.
The presence of Dunelight should ensure there is a truer pace this time round and William Knight's stable has hit a rich vein of form in the past week.
