But Chelsea are also monitoring events at Arsenal, with Adebayor unhappy over the club's refusal to meet his demands for a pay rise to £120,000-a-week and expressing a desire to join Barcelona or AC Milan.

That is not the kind of money that worries Chelsea and he is on a list of targets should Scolari suddenly need a replacement for Drogba.

He is also considering a £27m move for Robinho, who has two years remaining on his £30,000-a-week contract at the Bernabeu but is unhappy at the lack of movement on an improved deal.
