Chelsea play waiting game in bid to land Scolari as their next boss

Chelsea may have to be patient if they want Luiz Felipe Scolari as their next manager.

As the FA discovered two years ago, the Brazilian's loyalty remains with his employers and he could make Chelsea wait until after Portugal's European Championship campaign is over before discussing the vacancy at Stamford Bridge.

Scolari is thought to be on a shortlist alongside Blackburn's Mark Hughes, with Roberto Mancini among a number of other contenders now that he has been sacked by Inter Milan.

If, as reported in Italy, Roman Abramovich seeks the advice of Sven Goran Eriksson, the Swede is bound to recommend Mancini, given that the two worked together in Italy and remain good friends.

As well as searching for a new manager, Chelsea have to protect their squad from familiar predators.

Jose Mourinho is close to being confirmed as Mancini's replacement - with his unveiling expected early next week - and a move for Frank Lampard as well as Didier Drobga is considered imminent.

Chelsea would be happy to let Drogba move to either Inter or AC Milan, who have also expressed an interest, but they want to keep Lampard and new contract talks with the England midfielder are expected to start next week.
