Ribery, high on Chelsea's wanted list this summer, is having further investigation on the injury, sustained in the 10th minute of France's 2-0 defeat against Italy.

The Bayern Munich star, France's most effective player in their disappointing Euro 2008 campaign, looked in agony when he went down clutching the lower part of his left leg after a collision with Gianluca Zambrotta.

Initial reports suggested that Ribery had sustained serious damage to his Achilles tendon, although French coach Raymond Domenech said: "It looks like a knee injury, but we aren't sure yet."

Chelsea saw the talented Frenchman as the ideal player on the left side of midfield next season, rather than the relatively inexperienced Salomon Kalou and the disappointing Florent Malouda.

Kaka and David Villa, meanwhile, have both told Chelsea they have no interest in coming to Stamford Bridge.

Brazil international Kaka said: "I have not got the slightest desire to leave Milan."

And though the Blues are willing to offer Valencia £25m for Villa, who has scored four goals for Spain at Euro 2008, said: "I have heard that I am supposed to have said that I would prefer to go to Liverpool to play next season or that I want Chelsea to be my next team.

"I have not said anything like that. My club insists I am not for sale and, believe me, I am totally focused on the European Championships."

Chelsea would be prepared to pay him around £100,000 a week to change his mind, but Villa says his future doesn't depend on the size of his salary.

He added on guillembalague.com: "Money means nothing if you are not happy. My only target in life is to get better at my job."

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been told he is not wanted by former Blues manager Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan.

The Ivory Coast star is expected to be sold this summer but Inter president Massimo Moratti said: "There are no strikers on Mourinho's wish-list."

Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell is set to join Aston Villa for £4.5m.
