Chelsea skipper Terry still torturing himself over penalty shoot-out miss
22 July 2008
John Terry has admitted he is still torturing himself over his penalty miss that cost Chelsea the chance to be crowned European Champions.
The Chelsea skipper fluffed the final penalty of the regulation shoot-out sending it into sudden death, a goal would have seen Terry lift the huge trophy.
Costly slip: Terry misses his penalty in the shootout
Terry told The Sun: 'Every morning I wake up, that’s the first thing I think about. I am still so desperately disappointed about it.
'But I am a big man with a big character and it is now down to me to deal with that. Playing and scoring for England so soon afterwards helped to ease the pain a little.
'Hopefully success with Chelsea under our new manager can finally flush away those awful memories.
'I’m certainly looking forward to the new season so I can wipe away that bitter disappointment for the club, and especially for me.
'I am absolutely determined to win the Premier League, have another go at the Champions League — in fact I want to win as many trophies as possible.
'That’s the aim of our new manager too and he’s already impressed that on to everybody’s minds.
'He’s brought a few big players in and it is now my job to make them feel welcome.
'We are on tour for a couple of weeks which will really help everybody gel and make sure we are all ready for the new season.'
