Chelsea to play pre-season friendlies in China to raise cash for earthquake relief

Chelsea will play Chinese Super League side Chengdu Blades in Macau next month
in an effort to raise money for the Sichuan earthquake relief effort.

The fixture will take place on July 26 while the Blues also play Guangzhou Pharmaceuticals in Guangzhou on July 23 and a Malaysian Select XI in Kuala
Lumpur on July 29 as part of their Asian tour.

The city of Chengdu was seriously damaged by the recent earthquake in China and as well as the game, Chelsea have also arranged a series of events to raise awareness and money for the relief effort.

"We are very happy to play this game in Macau as it has particular significance for us with our connections to Chengdu via the Vision China programme," said Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon.

"We did look at playing a game in Chengdu, and now for very obvious and tragic reasons that will not be possible.

"But we are delighted to assist in raising awareness for the earthquake relief effort as well as having excellent opposition to help prepare for the new season."
