Chelsea youngsters fall at final hurdle

Chelsea Under-18s coach Paul Clement believes his players have learned valuable lessons from their FA Youth Cup run despite the club's bid to win it for the first time in 47 years ending in failure.

In the second leg of the final last night, Manchester City fell behind to a Ryan McGivern own goal after just six minutes but fought back to win 3-1 in front of their own fans and seal a 4-2 aggregate victory.

The difference between the sides was Vladimir Weiss who, after Ben Mee had equalised, scored with a tremendous free-kick and then won a late penalty which David Ball converted.

Chelsea showed plenty of attacking flair, yet lacked the composure in front of goal to make their pressure count.

Clement said: "It's been a great experience. We have gone a long way but got caught out at the final hurdle.

"We're going to get all the players together today and speak about the experience and what they can take from it in hopefully their long professional careers".
