China censors' web of intrigue as IOC agree deal to close websites to media

International Olympic Committee officials have struck a deal with China which will stop the media accessing certain websites.

IOC press officer Kevan Gosper had earlier claimed that internet access for the 21,500 accredited media would be 'open'.

He said: 'I now understand that some IOC officials negotiated with the Chinese that some sensitive sites would be blocked on the basis they were not considered Games-related.'

Banned sites include Amnesty International and links to the outlawed spiritual group Falun Gong.
