City hopes dashed as Ronaldinho steps up bid to sign for Milan

Manchester City's hopes of signing Ronaldinho receded yesterday after Roberto De Assis, his brother and agent, revealed he is doing all he can to negotiate a deal to AC Milan.
The Italians have been interested in signing the 28-year-old former world player of the year since it became clear he had no future at Barcelona, but Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani last week conceded they are unable to compete with City owner Thaksin Shinawatra’s plans to offer Ronaldinho £200,000-a-week.
Ronaldinho is prepared to move to Milan despite it meaning a lower wage
However, it appears that Ronaldinho favours a move to the San Siro, even if it means earning less money.
De Assis said: ‘We are working to take the best player in the world to the greatest club in the world. We’ve always had an excellent rapport with Milan and are in constant contact.
‘The chances of Ronaldinho playing for them this coming season remain the same as they were a few months ago.’
The situation could change if new Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari makes a move for Ronaldinho, who may now delay making a final decision until after he has played for Brazil in th Beijing Olympics.
