Andrew Cole will join former United team-mate Roy Keane at the Stadium of Light
A former Manchester United team-mate of manager Roy Keane, Cole was released by Portsmouth last month.
Keane could also sign free agent defenders Ian Harte and Sammy Kuffour who are on trial at the club.
