Collingwood: I’m glad it was 5-0

England's Paul Collingwood claims he is "glad we lost 5-0" to Australia in this winter's Ashes humiliation.

The Durham all-rounder believes the extent of the hammering will provide the team with all the motivation they need to win back the urn in 2009.

"Looking back over what happened to us this winter, once we lost the Ashes, in a way I'm actually glad we were beaten 5-0," he said.

"I'm glad because that gives me real personal motivation. And I'm sure the rest of the squad felt when they were beaten 5-0 that they wanted to do that to them next time."

Collingwood insists England learned valuable lessons from the defeat.

"The Australians seemed to have everything spot-on all the time: the times when the game was in the balance, they were the times when the Aussies hit us hard," he said.

"They showed their ruthlessness when on top and that's what we have to take into our game."
