Compromise Approach over Epsom Derby start for Bolger colt

New Approach will not be allowed to delay tomorrow's Derby by being 'ponied' all the way to the start.

Jim Bolger's colt is usually accompanied by a stablemate before the race to keep him calm but, after discussions with Epsom officials today, a compromise solution will be announced that will allow him to be partnered only to the end of the home straight.

He will have to make the rest of the journey to the stalls on his own.

New Approach's slow progress delayed the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket by six minutes and several trainers, including Luca Cumani, had raised concerns that a repeat could unfairly compromise the chances of others in the field.
