Cousin twist as Roux reveals striker played twice for Lens

Daniel Cousin's on-off £3million move to Fulham suffered another setback last night when it emerged the striker had played in two games for Lens before his transfer to Rangers.

And legendary French coach Guy Roux hit out at the Ibrox side as they wait to hear if FIFA will grant them special dispensation for Cousin to complete his move to the Premiership strugglers - despite breaking the 'two-club' ruling.

Rangers and Fulham have claimed Cousin only played a cameo role for Lens, with a 21-minute substitute's appearance for them in a 1-0 defeat to Bordeaux and as such, should be allowed his move.

Feeling blue: Daniel Cousin may be stranded at Ibrox after yesterday's news

But Roux yesterday revealed that Cousin also played the full 90 minutes of a second competitive clash for Lens on July 21 against Ukrainian side Chornomorets.

Roux, whose spell at Lens came to an end just four league games into the season, said: "It annoys me that Rangers and Fulham are bothering FIFA with this. They are being stupid and to be honest, I feel they are wasting FIFA's time.

"Everyone knows Daniel played for us and Rangers. There is a great modern-day invention called 'internet' which makes it easy to check these things.

"I'm sure most younger people are more than capable of using it and it clearly states that Daniel played for us - not once, but twice. He came on as a substitute at Bordeaux and started an Intertoto Cup match for us.

"That should make it quite simple - the transfer should not go ahead. I'm sorry for Daniel because he is caught up in this, but it's very straightforward - he has to spend the rest of the season at Rangers.

"I don't see why it should be questionable. I don't see why FIFA should look at this case, otherwise what is the point of having that ruling?

"If they allow it to be overturned on this occasion, why not just rip up the rule book altogether? Again, the law is the law and Rangers should abide by it.

"If FIFA give the decision I expect, then it means Daniel will be left disappointed. Clearly, he wants this move, so his head will be down.

"After that, he will get on with things and has to be professional. Rangers are his employers and, until that changes, he has to do a job for them."

FIFA, meantime, have admitted they have no idea when they will be able to give a verdict and a spokesperson said:

"The Cousin case is still pending. We received some extra information regarding it and have requested more, that is the reason for a delay. Because of that we cannot give an exact date."
