Alastair Cook sizzles with century

Alastair Cook hit his highest one-day international score for England against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi today

Having won the toss, the left-hander made 137, with his side making 260 for seven from their 50 overs.

Cook's opening partner Kevin Pietersen fared less well, struggling to 14 off 36 balls before being bowled by Shahid Afridi. The all-rounder was on a hat-trick after clattering Jonathan Trott's stumps to make the tourists 57 for two. But Ravi Bopara helped Cook steady the ship as England built a platform for a competitive target in the first ODI in the five-match series.

The Essex pair shared a partnership of 131 before Bopara fell for 50 when he was stumped off Saeed Ajmal, who followed his dazzling Test form with five for 43.
