Andrew Strauss dazed by Graham Onions delivery before Australia clash
15 September 2009
Andrew Strauss suffered an injury scare before England's oneday international against Australia today when he was hit on the head by a ball from Graham Onions during a net session.
The England captain was struck by a shortpitched delivery from the Durham paceman, who immediately called for medical attention.
Strauss removed his helmet and headed for the pavilion soon afterwards, looking dazed. But an England & Wales Cricket Board spokesman said there was "no problem" and confirmed that the opening batsman would take his place in the team at Trent Bridge.
England - who are 4-0 down in the NatWest Series with only three matches to play - have endured an injury-plagued series, with Joe Denly, Stuart Broad and Luke Wright all affected.
Wright had stitches yesterday after being struck on the toe while batting, and Hampshire allrounder Dimitri Mascarenhas was called into the squad as cover.
However, there was some good news today for Strauss as the Ashes-winning skipper was named on a four-man shortlist for the ICC's cricketer of the year award.
