Bell ready to set the tone in quarter-final showdown

England are considering moving Ian Bell up the order to open with skipper Andrew Strauss for Saturday's World Cup quarter-final against Sri Lanka.

Matt Prior was promoted to open with Strauss after Kevin Pietersen returned home to have hernia surgery, but the move has not been as successful as England would have hoped, with the wicketkeeper yet to reach 50 as an opener in the tournament.

Bell has opened before in one-day cricket and may be handed the role again. Batting coach Graham Gooch said: "Every batsman should aspire to open in one-day cricket. You want to set the tone."
