Cristiano beaten by Kaka for world player of the year prize

Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo had to settle for third place as Brazilian Kaka won the FIFA world player of the year prize.

Milan's Kaka received more votes (1,047) than the combined total of his short-listed rivals — Lionel Messi of Barcelona (504) and Manchester United's Ronaldo (426) — in the annual poll of national team coaches and captains. Chelsea's Didier Drogba (209) was fourth.

Ronaldo vowed to remain with United for the immediate future but admitted he would love to play in Spain. Ronaldo said: 'Sometimes I want something and it's not possible. But this is my dream.'
