Dual 2,000 Guineas winner Cockney Rebel suffered a pelvic stress fracture in Tuesday's St James's Palace Stakes.

But Geoff Huffer's colt is expected to be back at Ascot for a tilt at the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in September.

Tender loving care: Geoff Huffer hopes Cockney Rebel will soon be fit again after his St James's Palace Stakes exertions

Huffer said the injury was the likely reason why Cockney Rebel veered across to the stands' rail when fifth to Excellent Art.

Huffer said: "He was the best horse in the race and came to win his race but the injury cost him.

"He was sore this morning and we immediately took him for a scan.

"The pelvis has not been displaced and we are hoping to have him back in work in three weeks' time."
