Crunch time for Munro as he waits to learn his fate

A fighting-fit Alan Munro will return from China in the next few weeks to learn the fate of his riding career.

Racing's forgotten man will face an independent medical panel before Christmas in the hope that he will be given the chance to resurrect his career for the second time.

Take that: Alan Munro in action at Shanghai's Shotokan Karate-Do International School

He was banned from riding for 12 months after suffering a 'turn' on a flight to Deauville to ride Dutch Art in the Prix Morny last August.

During his time away, Munro turned to martial arts, honing his combat skills in a small gym off the side-streets of Shanghai.

He said: 'I've been training hard and feel great. While it has been frustrating not being able to ride, I've had a great year in China and have been able to take my karate to another level.

'It has been a long haul but hopefully it is nearly at its end and I'll soon be able to get my racing life back on course.'

Dr Michael Turner, the BHA chief medical officer, confirmed a decision on Munro was imminent.

'I have passed on all the relevant information and it is now up to an independent panel to make a recommendation to the Licensing Committee.'
