Dallaglio wants prizes rather than plaudits

Lawrence Dallaglio insists there will be no place for sentimentality when he calls time on his 15-year playing career with Wasps on Saturday.

The 2003 World Cup winner is desperate to go out on a high note and says his preparation is entirely focused on beating Leicester in the Guinness Premiership Final at Twickenham.

"It's the same situation for me as every other player," the Wasps captain said. "It's the last game of the season - end of story.

"It doesn't feel any different for me, although it might do in September. We have a job to do, it is as simple as that.

"It is a Test match in everything but name. Our team is full of Test match experience and so is there's. We will be bang up for it. I'm sure it will be a pretty tasty game."

Another Wasps stalwart, Fraser Waters, will also be making his farewell against Marcelo Loffreda's team. But rather than focus on goodbyes, Wasps head coach Shaun Edwards is intent on gaining revenge for the 34-24 defeat suffered at the hands of the Tigers in the Anglo-Welsh Cup semi-final in March.

He said: "They got us in a big game and that's something we are not used to.

"There'll be no talk of it being Fraser's or Lawrence's last game. This club does not do sentimentality, it does winning big games. I will leave the managing of the emotional side in the able hands of my captain."

Wasps will announce their side tomorrow morning, with Jeremy Staunton expected to be named at fly-half in place of Danny Cipriani, who continues his recovery from the horrific leg injury suffered in the semi-final.

Phil Vickery has also lost his race to be fit after damaging knee ligaments and Tom Voyce also misses out with a dislocated shoulder.
