A few fans have turned up for early-season games with customised Beckham shirts but the club won't confirm that the former England captain will wear the No 23 shirt he chose at Real Madrid, despite the fact the shirt's previous owner, Quavas Kirk, has switched to No 15.
Alexi Lalas, the Galaxy's president and general manager, said: "The Galaxy will unveil our new brand on or about the date of David Beckham's arrival. Currently, there is no such thing as an officially licensed David Beckham Galaxy jersey, as he will never appear in our current kit.
"Our new line of merchandise, including the first officially licensed David Beckham Galaxy jersey, will be available worldwide this summer."
Reading take a look at Hawk-Eye
Reading's emergence in the top flight means they are in line to be guinea pigs for the Premier League-backed plans for Hawk-Eye to solve football's goal-line technology debate.
Inventor Dr Paul Hawkins is compiling a report about the suitability of the club's training facilities for further testing of the system, with a view to using it for real in reserve matches at the Madejski Stadium next season.
Profits at Hawk-Eye Innovations fell by more than half to less than £200,000 in 2005. But with the backing of new owners John Wisden, the cricket almanac company, Hawk-Eye is on course to make a cool million this year.
Who'll be queen of the pit-lane now?
Exciting times are ahead for speedway — and not just when Sky presenter Sophie Blake returns to the track.
While Jacqui Oatley made her commentary debut on Match of the Day last night, Blake has already made a name for herself.
She allegedly had a fling last year with Scott Nicholls, Britain's No 1 rider, and is currently on maternity leave.
Sarra Elgan, wife of Ireland rugby international Simon Easterby, is filling in for her but the word is that Blake will return later in the season for a two-way battle to be queen of the pit-lane.
More significant for speedway is news that IMG, the world's leading sports agency, have bought the promoting rights to the FIM World Individual Grand Prix Series and the World Cup from BSI Speedway, whose management team have taken up new roles at IMG.
Spyker off track
Formula One newcomers Spyker had the bright idea of auctioning sponsorship opportunities for their cars on eBay. Sadly, no one was tempted to pay even the lowest reserve price, £340,000, for a space on the car's nose, let alone a perhaps ambitious £2 million to secure a spot on the engine cover. Spyker spokesman Mike Mulber said: "We did receive some bids but they were not from the sort of sponsors we wanted. But the publicity generated some good phone calls, which look promising."
