Danson gets all clear for German hockey test

Slough forward Alex Danson is set to make her Olympic debut after passing a fitness test on an injured ankle.

The 23-year-old sustained a ligament strain almost a fortnight ago in a warm-up match against New Zealand in Hong Kong.

With Great Britain's women opening their campaign against defending champions Germany on Sunday, Danson had a fitness test this morning to confirm her availability and came through with no problems.

"We are delighted for the team and for Alex personally," said head coach Danny Kerry.

"Alex has shown tremendous strength of character over the last 10 days and deserves this positive outcome."

Britain are also grouped with Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and the United States.

Top-ranked Netherlands face Australia, China, Spain, South Korea and South Africa in the other group.
