D'Arcy pays the price for fighting a fellow swimmer and gets Beijing ban

Australian swimmer Nick D'Arcy's Olympic dreams are officially over after the
Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld a decision to dump him from the Beijing-bound team.

The 20-year-old Queenslander was axed last month after being charged with
grievous bodily harm following a fight in a Sydney nightclub that left former
Commonwealth champion Simon Cowley with serious facial injuries.

Australian Olympic Committee chief John Coates said at the time that the charges were sufficient to bring the sport, the team and the Australian Olympic Committee into disrepute.

D'Arcy took the case to CAS, branding his dismissal 'unfair'.

He had continued an intensive training regime at his home on the Sunshine Coast
in order to keep himself fit for action but he will now be forced to sit the Games out after the CAS ruled that his bid to be reinstated had failed.

He won his spot on the Olympic team after taking the 200m butterfly title at the Australian championships.
