David Beckham to win 100th cap, but he won't stop until he catches legend Bobby Moore

Beckham was axed from Steve McClaren's first squad, but he will follow in the illustrious footsteps of Billy Wright, Bobby Moore, Sir Bobby Charlton and Peter Shilton when he reaches the milestone in France tomorrow.

The LA Galaxy midfielder, nicknamed Goldenballs by wife Victoria, made his debut against Moldova in September 1996, and will now target Moore's record for an outfield player of 108 caps.
Speaking after training in the snow yesterday at London Colney, he said: "Reaching 100 is a milestone in an Englishman's career and there aren't many who have done that. I'm very honoured to be in that company. They are players I have looked up to throughout my career, but I want to take it beyond that. I'm proud to wear my shirt and wear it for so many years. I'm very honoured by that. I'd have turned around and retired if I didn't have the desire.
"I've seen in the last couple of years the highs and the lows, but I wouldn't be here if I didn't feel I could do it physically any more.
"There are plenty of others coming through, but I feel I can offer something."
Beckham was left out of England manager Fabio Capello's first squad for the friendly against Switzerland at Wembley last month, but he has earned a recall after an outstanding pre-season with LA Galaxy.
England's general manager Franco Baldini travelled to Dallas last week to check on the player's fitness and Capello followed his recommendation to bring him back into the squad for the prestigious friendly with France.
McClaren had dropped Beckham from his first England selection in August 2006, but brought him back towards the end of the disastrous Euro 2008 qualification campaign.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United midfielder added: "Deep down I hoped it wasn't the end, but deeper down I felt I wasn't going to get the chance to play for my country again. I thought my England career was over.
"I didn't think that phone call (from McClaren) was coming. It was always in my mind to retire as captain after the 2006 World Cup, but I always felt I wouldn't be retiring from international football.
"When I had that phone call, I was shocked and I was hurt. That was probably the lowest point because I had a 14-hour flight to think about it after that.
"But I've responded in the right way."
