Davydenko wins appeal against his charge of not trying

Nikolay Davydenko has won his appeal against a fine for not trying at last month's tournament in St Petersburg.

The world No4 was ordered to pay £1,000 after being accused of a "lack of best effort" during a 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 defeat by Marin Cilic.

But Association of Tennis Professionals' official Gayle David Bradshaw said today: "Following an extensive review of the match concerned, which included a full video analysis, it was decided that Davydenko's appeal should be upheld and the fine rescinded."

Davydenko is still under investigation after his match against the Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello in the Poland Open in August was the subject of irregular betting patterns.

The Russian was also told by the umpire to "serve like me" after serving 10 double-faults during his recent defeat by Marcos Baghdatis at the Paris Masters.

Davydenko is now involved in the Masters Cup in Shanghai, where Frenchman Richard Gasquet today all but ended Novak Djokovic's interest in the event with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
