Deco: Red card was crazy

Deco today described referee Luis Medina Cantalejo's decision to send him off against Roma as crazy.

The Portugal international was shown his second yellow card of the match with just nine minutes left after taking a free-kick too quickly.

Deco said: "The problem was the moment he said 'just wait', I touched the ball. It was crazy. I don't know why I was sent off."

He will now miss the next match at Bordeaux in three weeks time through suspension, but he hopes the team will learn from their errors.

He added: "I don't know why we made so many mistakes, I hope it's just this one game. We want to continue playing in an attacking way. We are doing well and scoring many goals, but this was a bad game and now it's finished we have to think about the next one."

Manager Luiz Felipe Scolari hopes Deco won't be missed too much even though he was also aggrieved by the decision.

He said: "I think if one Roma player had done what Deco did they would not have been sent off."
