Defender Davies desperate for Barry to stay at Villa after UEFA Cup success

Curtis Davies admitted Gareth Barry's team-mates are all eager for
him to stay at the club after winning their UEFA Cup second qualifying round
first leg 4-1 away to FH Hafnarfjordur.

Barry played and scored in Reykjavik - meaning he would be cup-tied in the Champions League should he move to - stabbing home Villa's opener in
the fourth minute.

Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor also scored first-half goals at the Laugardalsvollur Stadium and although Matthias Gudmundsson pulled one back,
Martin Laursen's second-half header secured his side a comfortable lead to take
back to Villa Park.

Davies said on five: "I think he (Barry) showed in the second minute what he can do and that's what the celebration was about - we love Gareth, we want him to stay and hopefully he does.

"We just try to get on with it. If Gareth's there I'm happy.

"If he's not there one day, I will be disappointed but good luck to him."

Davies' appearance was also significant as he returned from an Achilles injury
well ahead of schedule.

"It's good, obviously it's my first game back and I wasn't even expected to be
training until next week so I've done well to come in," he said.

"They didn't really make it easy for us by any means. These games can be hard
when you don't really know much about the opposition.

"With the early goal we set out stall out. We're disappointed they managed to
get their goal and they came out with a bit more in the second half but we got
the fourth and put it away."
