Defoe commits to Tottenham and tells Levy and his agent - sort out my contract quickly

Jermain Defoe is ready to commit his future to Tottenham after instructing his agent to discuss a new deal with Daniel Levy.

Last week Spurs chairman Levy urged the striker to make a decision on whether he wanted to stay at White Hart Lane.

Defoe's current deal expires in 2009 and the England international had been stalling on an extension due to a lack of first-team opportunties.

But, having spoken to new Spurs boss Juande Ramos, the 25-year-old says he is willing to stay in North London.

"I spoke to the manager and he said, 'I want you to stay, you are part of the plans'. It was great to hear that," Defoe told the News of the World.

"I told the chairman I wanted to sign and I was honest with the manager. Now the chairman and my agent will sort it.

"I want to play every game, but the manager will rotate. But he said, 'When you get a chance, do well and you'll play'."

Defoe has yet to score in the Premier League this season, but has started only once and featured nine times from the bench.
