Dejected Distin set to join Pompey in search for silverware

Sylvain Distin will join Portsmouth after becoming disenchanted by the takeover saga at Manchester City.

The 29-year-old will sign within the next fortnight on a Bosman-style free transfer, boosting the chances of new Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce of landing Sol Campbell.

Scroll down to read more:

Distin was frustrated by City's poor form and off-field problems that culminated in the sacking of Stuart Pearce last Monday. And he was frustrated by failing to win a trophy at the club after signing from Paris St Germain in 2002 following a loan spell at Newcastle.

The takeover at City may be three weeks away from being resolved despite claims that former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has made a formal bid for the club. By Joe Bernstein
