Derby boss Jewell fears losing on-loan Tottenham star Ghaly after Rams relegation

Derby boss Paul Jewell admits on-loan midfielder Hossam Ghaly would prefer to remain in the top flight next season.

The Egyptian joined from Tottenham in January and, although he has two years left on his contract, Ghaly has already been told he has no future under Juande Ramos.

Leaving soon: Jewell believes Ghaly will stay in the Premier League next season

He has, though, impressed for relegated Derby in recent weeks and Jewell confirmed he has already held discussions with the 26-year-old about keeping him.

"Quite understandably, Hossam wants to stay in the Premier League," said Jewell.

"But if there aren't any Premier League clubs who take him then he is very happy to come to Derby.

"He lost his way a little bit at Tottenham and at least we have given him a vehicle to show what he can do."
