Derby hero Didi set for new deal

Manchester City are to reward derby day hero Didi Hamann with a new contract that will keep him at the club beyond his 35th birthday.

Hamann, 34, starred as City completed an incredible double over Manchester United this season with a 2-1 win at Old Trafford on Sunday.

New deal: Hamann

And it is understood the Champions League winner is on the verge of signing a new one-year extension to his current 12-month deal that will see him remain at Eastlands for the remainder of his top-flight career.

Negotiations with Hamann have been ongoing for a month now but club sources have suggested that an announcement is imminent.

City boss Sven Goran Eriksson had his doubts about the midfielder at first but admitted: "Hamann has been excellent for us this season and enjoyed another very good afternoon at Old Trafford. He just seems to keep going."
