Digard blasts Paris St Germain for putting his Boro move in doubt

Midfielder Didier Digard has hit out at Paris St Germain for putting his move to Middlesbrough in jeopardy after their president Charles Villeneuve refused to meet Steve Gibson.

The Middlesbrough chairman flew to Paris last week to rescue a deal that has been cast in doubt over the arrangement of the £4million transfer fee.

PSG want the money upfront but Gibson thought an agreement had been struck to allow his club to pay in instalments.

Angry: Didier Digard had already agreed terms on a switch to Middlesbrough.

Digard has already agreed terms on a switch to the Riverside Stadium that will net him around £750,000-a-year and has even had a medical at the club’s training ground after a lengthy stay at Teesside.

Middlesbrough officials thought the deal was ready to be concluded only for PSG to demand the full transfer fee outright.

That does not suit Middlesbrough but Gibson was snubbed when he attempted to  broker a compromise.

'Charles Villeneuve refused to meet Middlesbrough’s president, who came  especially,' said Digard.

'I can’t believe it, this club are going nowhere and I can’t stay. Paris keep a coach but name a president that never agrees with him. Not on the players who should stay, nor the ones who have to arrive.

'Everybody is okay for the €5 million that Boro want to pay in two instalments, but Paris refuse, whereas my move from Le Havre was facilitated by financial adjustments. I’ve never seen that.

'I’m upset, it’s taking too long. Nobody dares take decisions, they are incompetent. Admittedly, there’s Paul Le Guen, but he told me it was above him.'

Gibson and Gareth Southgate want the Digard deal concluded so they can continue  their summer transfer plans.

Their move for Reading's James Harper is similarly at an advanced stage and they want Sparta Rotterdam’s Martin Emnes and Swansea’s Ferrie Bodde.

Dutch forward Emnes will cost £2.75 million and midfielder Bodde is available for around £2 million.

Gibson wants a solution to the Digard standoff as Middlesbrough weigh up an offer for Jimmy Bullard. Gary O’Neill and Luke Young could both be allowed to move back south if they land their targets.
