Dolphins put loss of home game to Wembley into perspective

"If we play the way we're capable, you can gain added home games at the end of the season," the coach said in London earlier today, where the Dolphins take on the New York Giants on October 28. "That's our challenge."

The game at the rebuilt Wembley Stadium will be the first regular-season NFL game played outside North America.

"We want to get more people to know about American football," Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga said, adding that several thousand fans from Miami are expected to make the trip to watch the "home" game.

"Which is good and bad," Huizenga said. "We want to save as many tickets as possible for the U.K. people to come see the game, but yet we can't say no to our own fans as well."

Jason Taylor, an All-Pro defensive end, also made the trip to London. He's already getting a taste of the jet lag that will be awaiting the team when it arrives in October.

"It'll be a little bit of a, I don't want to say inconvenience, but it'll be a little different from the normal regiment," Taylor said. "I mean at this point we can't change it anyway, so there's no sense complaining about it.

"As we sit here I'm tired."

Cameron said the team is expecting to leave Miami on the Thursday night before the game, and arrive in London on Friday morning to give them time to acclimate.

When the Dolphins do land in London, it will likely be with Trent Green as the starting quarterback.

The Dolphins acquired the former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback two weeks ago to replace Daunte Culpepper, who has said he wants out of his contract.

Culpepper, acquired by Miami before the 2006 season, is still rehabbing from a serious knee injury in 2005. He started at quarterback for the first four games last season, but was then sidelined because of the ongoing knee problems.

The Dolphins are trying to trade him, but Culpepper, who acts as his own agent, wants to go wherever he wants.

"Right now we're in negotiations and to comment any further than that really can compromise those," Cameron said. "We'll have to more say about that as this thing comes to a close."

Huizenga said there have been a couple of teams interested in Culpepper.

"How far that's gone I really don't know," Huizenga said. "We'll figure out what to do with Daunte. He's a good guy and we want to treat him right."

The NFL Players Association filed a grievance last week on Culpepper's behalf. That is set to be heard on June 29.

Both Cameron and Huizenga also said Culpepper wasn't told to leave the practice field on June 8, when the Dolphins began a three-day minicamp at their home practice facility. Culpepper left the field that day after about an hour, saying a position coach told him he wouldn't be participating in drills with the full offense.

"No player would be asked to leave the practice field if it didn't come from my direction," Cameron said. "At no time was anyone told to leave the field."

Culpepper said he went to the weight room and worked out for the remainder of that day's practice.

"He said, 'If I'm not going to be playing, I would just as soon go into the exercise room and work out my rehab leg,'" Huizenga said. "That's fine. That's a good reason."

Taylor said the Culpepper saga wouldn't affect the team.

"We kind of separate ourselves from it," Taylor said. "It's a business. He's dealing with the business side of it right now."
