Donadoni's days are numbered as Lippi is lined up to take charge of Italy

Roberto Donadoni's reign as Italy coach will end this week and his replacement is expected to be Marcello Lippi, who masterminded the country's 2006 World Cup triumph.

Some newspaper reports in Italy say Donadoni will be sacked on Wednesday while one news agency claims Italy's Football Federation will meet him in the next few days to discuss terminating his contract.

However, the federation deny reports that Donadoni has already been dismissed. Donadoni, a former AC Milan and Italy midfielder, took over two years ago and said he had no intention of quitting after Italy were knocked out by Spain on Sunday in the quarter-finals.
