Donald finds a flaw in Freddie

Andrew Flintoff has a "long-term worry" in his bowling action according to England's fast bowling consultant Allan Donald.

The former South African paceman went to the Twenty20 finals at Edgbaston purely to see the England all-rounder bowl on Saturday, watching Freddie's Lancashire slip to a shock semi-final defeat against Gloucestershire.

Action man: Andrew Flintoff's bowling action could be a 'long-term worry' believes Donald

Donald examined Flintoff 's action on his return from a third ankle operation as he bowled three overs, taking one wicket for 24, and said: "I sat on the scaffolding with my binoculars to watch Freddie bowling. He talked to me during the Old Trafford Test when he was still on crutches and he asked whether we needed to work on getting his front foot straight.

"But his front foot points inwards, then he twists over it and it turns straight as he goes over the top, therefore there is counter-thrusting, where bone and muscle are working against each other, so it could be a long-term worry.

"At the moment he's bursting at his seams, happy just to be out there playing and bowling again. He will make a massive difference in the one-dayers.

"But his action is a major issue that could creep up again. It is not something I am going to start modifying now. It would have to be done in the close season. It is up to Freddie to decide."

Flintoff, 29, was named in coach Peter Moores' one-day squad to play India later today and Donald is keen to speak to him about his analysis.
