Donati's stunning late strike gives Celtic massive boost

Massimo Donati capped another glorious night of European football at Celtic Park with an injury-time winner to take Gordon Strachan's men to the brink of the knockout stages.

The Italian swept in a right-foot finish after superb work on the right wing by Aiden McGeady.

Under pressure: Celtic keeper Artur Boruc punches clear

Celtic now need a draw in their final group tie at AC Milan on Tuesday, or hope that Shakhtar do not beat Benfica.

Celtic made the worst possible start last night when John Kennedy headed a fourth-minute clearance at Brandao, and the ball dropped kindly for the Brazilian to beat Artur Boruc.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink sent a header inches wide, but Boruc rescued Celtic with two saves in 60 seconds from Brandao.

Kennedy's night got even worse when he was carried off five minutes from half time after going up for a high ball, with Celtic already having lost Lee Naylor to an earlier injury.

Those setbacks were forgotten just before the break when Jiri Jarosik thrashed in a left-foot volley after two Shakhtar defenders collided while trying to clear a long ball.

Jarosik should have had another in first-half injury time but sent his diving header off target from McGeady's superb cross.
