Don't 'diss' my sis - Venus jumps to Serena's defence over Stich slur
04 July 2007
The Williams sisters stood united against the world at Wimbledon yesterday after a dramatic quarter-final defeat for Serena at the hands of world No 1 Justine Henin.
Hampered by calf and thumb injuries, Serena lost 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 and then both sisters rounded on former men's champion Michael Stich, who suggested she had exaggerated her injuries in the previous round.

Venus, who crushed Maria Sharapova 6-1, 6-3, said: "Anyone suggesting her injury was not as severe as it was is clearly ignorant, so I'm definitely offended."
Defiant Serena said: "I do know the pain I was in. My career is more stellar than Michael Stich's, so he can say whatever he pleases. I've never experienced that much pain and I've never been overdramatic in my whole career."
Serena insisted her injuries helped Henin and invited charges of arrogance by declaring Venus will be this year's champion.
She added: "The eventual champion I saw in the fourth round today, definitely. Considering my leg and having no backhand and no shot, I think I did pretty well.
"But if I'd been healthy, I would have won, one hundred per cent. I wasn't even sure if I was going to play because it was hurting so bad."
Rafael Nadal, who beat Robin Soderling 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5 in a third-round match which should have been played on Saturday, attacked organisers.
He said: "I don't understand why we didn't play on Sunday. The weather was OK, better than today, yesterday and Monday, too. And I don't understand why they cancelled play yesterday when, at 8.10pm, the sun is here for an hour."
