Dundee United's Dillon keen to take out Ibrox 'injustice' on Celtic

Sean Dillon claims the controversy surrounding Dundee United's recent defeat to Rangers has only made the Tannadice players even more determined to win tonight's clash with Old Firm rivals Celtic.

United felt they were robbed by a series of contentious decisions by referee Mike McCurry, who failed to award them a penalty, chalked off a legitimate goal and didn't red-card Daniel Cousin for a headbutt.

That provoked furious reactions from United boss Craig Levein and chairman Eddie Thompson, who lodged an official complaint with the SFA on Tuesday.

Tempers flared: Dundee Utd's Noel Hunt is held back by his manager Craig Levein (left) and David Robertson following the Clydesdale Bank Premier League match at Ibrox

United have had to wait 12 days to pull their boots on again but, contrary to some of the conspiracy theories, Dillon insists the Ibrox injustice has only served to heighten their desire to end the season on a high.

"We were not happy about what happened at Ibrox and we felt a sense of injustice, so we're glad to have this game to get it out of our system," he said.

"It has been a long time waiting for it to come around because of the season-being extended. It's often hard to keep people focused when there's a long period between games, but I can honestly say that the lads have been on their toes.

"We're well up for it. We've been buzzing in training and we just can't wait to play."

It is likely to be the final game in tangerine for Willo Flood, whose loan deal from Cardiff is set to expire, and Dillon admits the Irishman will be sorely missed.

"Willo is a good friend of mine," he said. "We stayed near each other back home and have known each other for years.

"He's been a fantastic signing for the team and we'll miss him when he goes, but that's football. I know he's loved his time here and will want to go out on a high."

United boss Craig Levein has decided that skipper Lee Wilkie will be on the bench because he doesn't want to risk him getting the one booking he needs to trigger a three-match ban next season.

Garry Kenneth, who played in the CIS Cup Final, will take his place.

Levein said: "Lee will be on the bench and the only way I'll use him is if someone gets injured. Fingers crossed that won't happen because we don't want to risk getting him banned for next season."
