Dyer closes in on Hammers move

Kieron Dyer is today finally expected to complete his on-off move from Newcastle to West Ham after a compromise deal was agreed.

Despite initially accepting West Ham's £6million offer and the midfielder passing a medical earlier this month, Newcastle suddenly blocked the move when their owner Mike Ashley demanded another £2m.

There were rumours Ashley was angry after hearing claims West Ham officials were boasting they had landed the 28-year-old cheaply, an allegation the Hammers strongly deny.

Further negotiations took place yesterday, however, and an agreement has been reached whereby, it is understood, West Ham will pay more of the fee up front.

Hammers' signing of former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen is in the balance.

He has been told by Barcelona he can go and there is a provisional agreement over a fee but he is reluctant to leave.

West Ham remain interested in Palermo's Australia midfielder Mark Bresciano but face stiff opposition from Juventus.
